Recycling plants need emissions treatment solutions in order to reduce the content of ammonia, odours and VOCs derived from the processes of waste sorting and composting.
ATP environment offers turn-key engineered solutions for process air treatment in many fields, our passion and commitment to the environment and our clients has pushed us forward to innovate and search the best solution for each application.
The request was to remove odours from 130.000 m3/h air flow from solid waste mechanical sorting and 10.000 m3/h from storage bunker.
The challenge was to carry the project out in a really reduced area.
The proposed solutions from our team were bioscrubbing after a baghouse filter for mechanical sorting and a carbon filter for the bunker.
The twin bioscrubber towers are in their own right an interesting case study.
How do they work?
Polluted gas enters the inlet flange and passes through the filter chamber with high specific surface area filler bodies allowing gas-liquid contact.
The polluted gas is forced to flow vertically through the section whilethe scavenging liquid is simultaneously and uniformly introduced from above and flows downward in countercurrent to the air.
The clean gas is then passed through a mist eliminator built into the top of the scrubber and the waste slurry falls to the bottom of the tank.
The scrubber solution consists of water and one of our biological activators whose microorganisms metabolize most organic and inorganic compounds through a large number of reactions that transform the input compounds into non-odorous products.
In this type of application, this solution was convenient for many reasons:
How do they work?
Carbon filters use the contact of the air with the active carbon to retain volatile organic substances.
It is therefore an adsorber filter that guarantees the quality of the air in the working environment and the abatement of the odors generated by V.O.C.s..
Activated carbon is a chemically inert industrial material composed of a highly porous form of carbon with an exceptionally high internal surface area.
